About Our Maths Curriculum
It is the intent of the curriculum to:
- create confident mathematicians grounded with number fluency and calculation skills
- create inquisitive problem solvers
Maths, as a core subject, will be taught daily. There a focus on assuring foundations for problem solving are in place, including place value, a secure understanding of number and fluency for and with calculations. At Tollgate Primary, we follow the White Rose curriculum but expect teachers to alter the pace of the sequence based on the needs of the children within their groups. This may vary from year group to year group in addition to individual cohorts. Teachers will use quick, non-threatening formative assessment (e.g., end of block assessments) to gauge their learning and adjust the pace accordingly. We expect all children to have an opportunity to work with concrete objects/manipulatives prior moving on to pictorial and abstract representations. Children will be provided daily opportunities to revisit past learning to ensure learning is secure and not forgotten.
